How it plays
Each broken piece arrives with a story. Turn it to study the cracks, guide its fragments home, paint the seams with lacquer and let them rest. Then lay in the gold and polish it until it catches the light. Name the mended piece, read its owner’s letter and give it a place in your gallery.
- Five short chapters, each named for a Japanese idea, from Nanakorobi Yaoki (fall seven, rise eight) to Wabi-Sabi
- Seventeen pieces to mend, from a musician’s tea bowl to a wedding vase, each broken in its own way
- Letters from their owners, from Port of Spain to Hokkaido, and a memory for every fragment you bring home
- Yobitsugi: fill a missing gap with a shard from another vessel
- Gold seams that follow the real shape of every crack
- No timers, scores or penalties, and a gentle shimmer when you lose track of a crack
- Koto, shakuhachi, soft piano and strings, with rain and birdsong outside
- Play with a mouse; every tool also has a key
